Central Library, Central University of Kerala and INFLIBNET Centre, Ahmedabad jointly organized One Day User Awareness Program on Shodhganga and Urkund software at the Seminar Hall, Tejaswini Hills Campus, Periye on 12th August 2016 from 10.30 am onwards. The Shodhganga@INFLIBNET Centre provides a platform for research students to deposit their Ph.D. theses and make it available to the entire scholarly community in open access. The repository has the ability to capture, index, store, disseminate and preserve ETDs submitted by the researchers. URKUND is a completely automated system against plagiarism (Anti-plagiarism software) and is being successfully used at universities and colleges all around the world. URKUND's system checks all documents against three central source areas: a. The Internet b. Published material such as Journals, Books etc. c. Previously submitted student material (e.g. memoranda, case studies and examination works) Dr.Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan ; 12 August 1892 – 27 September 1972) was a mathematician and librarian from India. His most notable contributions to the field were his five laws of library science and the development of the first major analytic colon-synthetic classification system, the colon classification. He is considered to be the father of library science, documentation, and information science in India and is widely known throughout the rest of the world for his fundamental thinking in the field. His birthday is observed every year as the National Library Day in India. He was a university librarian and professor of library science at Benares Hindu University (1945–47) and professor of library science at the University of Delhi (1947–55). The last appointment made him director of the first Indian school of librarianship to offer higher degrees. He was president of the Indian Library Association from 1944 to 1953. In 1957 he was elected an honorary member of the International Federation for Information and Documentation (FID) and was made a vice-president for life of the Library Association of Great Britain. Tejaswini Hills Campus (THC) Library,Central University of Kerala conducted orientation program for new Post graduate Students and Research Scholars from 28th July to 31st July. New postrgraduate students from five academic departments (Computer Science, Economics, International Relations and Politics, Mathematics, Social Work were the participants of these programs and the program was conducted as sessions. Program was conducted to give a general idea about the resources, facilities and services of the library along with its physical lay-out of the library.
Searching in Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) of the Library and other electronic resources (online journals, databases etc.) were also introduced. The program was conducted by Shri. Gireesh Kumar T K, Assistant Librarian of the Library with the assistance of other staff members of the library. Central University of Kerala Library organised an Orientation cum Interactive Session on Library Services for the Faculties & Research Scholars of CUK on 24th February 2015 at the Vidyanagar Campus Auditorium, CUK. Dr. Senthilkumaran, Deputy Librarian of the University welcomed all and Prof. (Dr.) G. Gopakumar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of CUK delivered the keynote address. Dr. Shivarama Rao and Shri. Gireesh Kumar , Assitant Librarians of CUK conducted the Interactive and Orientation session.
The Library and Information System Portal developed by the Tejaswini Hills Campus Library has been officially launched during the programme. The site can be accessed from http://cuklis.weebly.com Central University of Kerala Library is conducting an orientation programme on Library Services for its faculties and research scholars at Central University of Kerala, Vidyanagar Campus, Kasaragod on 24th February 2015 at 2.30 pm.
